nixen – newborn photography

Andrew and I first photographed Kristen and David’s wedding a couple summer’s ago and now I had the honor of capturing some photos of their new addition!  Nixen was 10 days old when Kristen brought him for pictures & it was so neat to see one of my brides now a mom!!  I got a good laugh out of this little guy…. I was told that whenever I turned away to grab something or switch cameras, he would open his eyes…. then shut them again before I was ready to take his picture!!

Enjoy a few pictures of Nixen….

win a baby book!

Recently I have been having a great time photographing babies!  I thought it would be fun to have a draw for those who book a newborn session between now and March 1st.  If you are pregnant and not due until after the contest closes that is just fine because the session just needs to be booked by then.  The catch: I want to photograph babies that are less than 2 weeks old, so you will just let me know your due date for now.  Then you will notify me as soon as possible after your baby’s birth to set up an appointment time.

So, the draw will be on March 1st, 2010 and the best part……. the prize is an awesome baby book designed by Kal Barteski and printed by Blurb!  I have these books for my kids and they are so so cute!!  I love how they aren’t a super traditional baby book and have plenty of space to keep writing through out your child’s growing up years.

As an extra bonus I have a fantastic booking special for these sessions …. email me through the contact button at the top of the blog for details!

lyla – regina newborn photography

Ooooh what a sweetie this little 5 day old princess was!  She was absolutely the perfect age for newborn photographs.  Lyla would open her eyes for a bit and look around, but she was such a good little sleeper and let me wrap her, unwrap her & move her all over the place!  I love the sleepy newborn photos and if you ask me, Lyla was the perfect little model!

sophie – baby photography

With our unpredictable Saskatchewan winters, we had to try a few times to plan little Sophie’s session.  Sophie is only 6 months old and LOVES being outdoors even during our crazy winters!  It was so fun to be able to incorporate some outdoor photos during our session…. even though we had to watch the forecast pretty closely to pick a nice day.  Our patience paid off though….. we had some beautiful weather for being outdoors and enjoying the snow!

It was fun to watch Sophie observing things with her big beautiful eyes….  we got smiles too but I am in love with her serious, taking it all in expression!

a new feature – bride talk!

bridetalkyellow

Periodically I am hoping to feature one of our upcoming beautiful brides here on the blog and ask them some questions about their wedding plans!  So for my very first Bride Talk I approached one of our June 2010 brides, Kandis!  Being the fun, awesome person she is, she was eager to let me in on some of the excitement of her wedding plans!

I hope you enjoy reading through this little question and answer, I know there were a few times that my heart melted a little and I had to say “awwww”

Here is a picture from Kandis and Devin’s engagement session that we did last summer.  Happy reading and a big thank you to Kandis for participating.  We are SO excited for your day in June!

What part of wedding planning do you spend the most time on?

Our GUEST LIST!! Oh my goodness!!! What a challenge that has been! We had no idea how many people made up our network of support. Over the years we have been blessed with friends and family who have influenced us, guided us, challenged us, softened the blow of the hardships and celebrated the successes. We want all of these people to share in our day. What we didn’t anticipate, was the LARGE amount of people that fell into that category!!!

Do you have any tips you can share for finding the perfect wedding dress?

HAHA!!! Considering I have two….;-)

I think what I have come to learn is that you just have to keep open minded and try everything on. Dresses look entirely different ON then hanging on the racks. I had a very narrow focus when I started my treasure hunt!  I was getting NO WHERE FAST with that sentiment!! Once I broadened my perspective all kinds of dresses came and now I can’t decide which one!

Have you seen what Devin is wearing?

I have not…nor has he seen what I’m wearing!

What color palette have you chosen?

I actually wanted the simple, yet classic BLACK & WHITE wedding. Initially, we were aiming for a “Black Tie Affair” OR a “White Hot Lounge”, but figured that was getting a bit ‘over-the-top’ for my small town family! I may add a splash of color using my centerpieces, but those details have not been entirely sorted out.

Are you following any wedding traditions?

I certainly don’t feel obligated to follow tradition. A simple flower in the hair shakes the traditional veil. A wedding cake will be replaced with cupcakes. I would say our wedding is more modern – we’re getting married in a church, which is about the only traditional aspect of the wedding.

Have you picked out your wedding day jewelry?

I haven’t even thought about that. My mother-in-law to be is a Fifth Avenue Consultant – I think I will be well taken care of!

How about wedding bands?

Well…

Devin had my engagement ring specially made – it’s absolutely beautiful and everything I wanted!! Finding a wedding band to match…has not been so easy! I think I was at EVERY jewelry store in Regina and found nothing that suited it or was a good fit. Currently, I have a jeweler working on a design for me. I’m excited to see what he comes up with – Devin helped with that process too! He seems to have an eye for this kind of thing and I trust him 100% to get it perfect for me!

Do you have any stress relieving tips to share with other brides?

Hire a wedding decorator!!! Enough said.

What part of your wedding are you most looking forward to?

Holding my husbands hand for the first time.

Any memorable weddings you’ve been to in the past?

Oh I have been to MANY MANY MANY weddings over the years!!! They ALL have their special moments and each were unique in their own way.

I do have to mention my sister’s wedding – she has been my biggest influence in life. I respect her SO much and feel such a sense of pride to call her my sister. The day she walked down the aisle was a GREAT day!!!

What is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?

I’m WAY more EXCITED for my MARRIAGE than my actual WEDDING DAY. I think that says it all.

grayson – baby photography

First of all Happy New Year everybody!  This past week I got to spend some time with sweet baby Grayson, photographing him.  He was wide awake for the whole session (so no sleeping baby pictures) but perfectly content which made things pretty fun & easy for me!

Grayson already has quite the shoe collection….. I saw at least one more big basket full of shoes in his room!

giving is awesome – winner (s)

Wow, what a difficult decision it was to narrow down a winner for the Giving is Awesome contest!  I read and re-read each entry and was touched by what others were going through.

I have been in touch with the winners (yes, that is right, there was more than one- the decision was THAT hard!) of this contest and look forward to meeting these wonderful people and having the opportunity to capture some beautiful memories for them.

Thanks to all those who nominated someone they were close to and cared for!!  With their permission, when the time comes to blog their upcoming sessions,  I will hopefully be able to tell you a little bit about their stories!

giving is awesome!

givingisawesome600x70

Giving is awesome is the name of an amazing movement of hundreds of photographers worldwide who’s goal is to give away over $1,000,000 in custom portraiture sessions and artwork to deserving children and families.   Read the information below and if you know someone who fits the criteria for this gift, please email your nomination by December 21st.

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography.  A session with Laurie Ann Photography and a complete set of digital images and it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $200 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:
* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
* The nominee must reside in Saskatchewan. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.
* You must e-mail me the full story through the contact button at the top of the blog.

The winner will be chosen on December 24th — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

surprise birthday party!

On Friday evening we headed into Regina to spend the weekend with my sister Lisa, and her family.  We knew that we were going to have a fun family weekend together for my birthday.  We have really never done much as far as big celebrations for birthdays since we have become adults…. we focus all that on our kids now I guess!  So, it was definitely a surprise to get to Dallas and Lisa’s house and see a house full of friends!

Thank you so much Amy for planning this with Lisa!  Also, thank you Katrina for working for hours and hours with Lisa on the cake!!  And thanks to everyone who came and brought goodies, I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends and family.

The trip to Damara spa with Lisa on Saturday was a great way to continue the fun weekend!!
