I thought the winter months were going to go by so slow waiting for wedding season to begin but before we know it we will be back into the full swing of shooting weddings (SO excited!!) I figured it was definitely time to feature another one of my awesome brides, and Melissa volunteered for the job! So thank you Melissa for taking the time to do this and I loved finding out more about your plans. We took engagement pictures for Melissa and Trevor back in the fall when we had sessions booked like crazy and failed to get some of them on the blog….. so here you get to enjoy a couple of their pictures finally! Andrew and I are honored to be the photographers for Melissa and Trevor’s wedding in Regina this summer!
Enjoy this second edition of Bride Talk!!

What part of wedding planning do you spend the most time on?
I tend to really over-do it with many aspects of the planning, but I’d have to say I spent the most time dress shopping! It was very fun to begin with, and I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted. I spent tons of time looking online and I tried on lots of dresses at different stores, in different cities. I even got to go dress shopping when I was down in California in December. I found lots of dresses I really liked, but didn’t get that “this is the one” feeling, and I didn’t want to feel like I was just settling for one. Then I started to find that the dresses were beginning to look the same and I was getting frustrated, so I made a list of likes and dislikes, and drew pictures of the two different styles I decided I needed to pick between. Thinking I was never going to find my ideal dress, I had decided to settle on one of the others I liked when my mom and I were in Regina one day and pulled a dress out at one store. We looked at each other and said “this is it” before I had even tried it on…. and it ended up being the one!
Have you used any online resources in your wedding planning?
Yes, I’ve looked up tons of stuff online from dresses, to cakes, hairstyles, flowers, centerpieces, etc. I’m not sure how people planned weddings in the past without browsing all the ideas you can find online, haha. I even looked at unique wedding photo ideas, but I am going to trust you in that department!!
Have you seen what Trevor is wearing?
Yes, I helped the guys pick out their suits, but I haven’t seen the whole look put together yet so it will still be special on the big day!
Are you following any wedding traditions?
I’d like to follow some of them. I’m not exactly sure yet what my something old, new, borrowed and blue will be.
Have you picked out your wedding day jewelry?
I have a few different things in mind, but probably won’t make the final decision until I can try a few different things on with my dress. I’ve always wanted to wear a pearl necklace for my wedding, but I don’t have one of my own, so maybe it will have to be my “something borrowed” or “something new” lol.
Do you have any stress relieving tips to share with other brides?
Try and have fun planning! Exercise also helps relieve stress and gets you looking fantastic for the big day! (at least I’m hoping it will help me get looking fantastic… lol!!)
What part of your wedding are you most looking forward to?
All of it!! I’m sure it will fly by so fast and it will be so much fun. There really isn’t one thing I’m looking forward to, just getting everyone together to celebrate is going to be great. I can’t wait to see Trev’s face when I come down the aisle. And I really hope I can hold it together but I KNOW I’m going to cry!
What is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?
Remember the wedding is just one day; the important part of marriage is not the wedding day, but the life you will live with the man you love. Have fun, be creative, don’t be afraid to ask for help, follow your heart, and enjoy every minute of it!!
Have you made honeymoon plans yet?
I’m super excited for our honeymoon because we love traveling together, but have never been on a trip where it is just the two of us, it’s always been with family or friends! We think we will wait until the weather gets cold again, but when we go will also depend on whether or not I get into a Master’s program anywhere this fall. I’d love to do a European trip full of sightseeing and adventure, but I think for our honeymoon we are leaning more towards a beach vacation in the Bahamas or somewhere near there. I’m actually planning to leave the rest of the details up to Trevor…. I told him to not even tell me exactly where we are going and surprise me with fun stuff once we get there! Should be fun!
